Meet The Pastor
Biography - Reverend Douglas J. LaPointe
Pastor Doug came to faith when he was nineteen years old. He accepted Christ into his life after his cousin shared the gospel with him in 1986. He grew up in New Jersey, one of five children, but had never opened his heart to the Lord until then.
He knew immediately that God was calling him into the pastorate. He became involved in Campus Crusade for Christ at Rutgers University where he was a student. After graduating from Rutgers in 1989 with a BA in communications, he attended Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in Massachusetts. He earned his Master of Divinity with honors in 1993. Throughout his college and seminary years, he was also a golf instructor during semester breaks.
He has served three churches as associate and head pastor in Lakewood, New Jersey, Charlotte, North Carolina, and Jacksonville, Florida. He has also written The Top 50 Questions Ever Asked About Christianity and The Top Ten Evidences Against The Theory Of Evolution.
Pastor Doug's ministry is marked by humor, creativity, and biblical preaching and teaching. His passion is to see others come to life-changing knowledge of Jesus Christ and to see believers drawn to him in a deep and powerful way. All of this comes through in everything he does. In his free time, Pastor Doug likes sports, travel, and writing. Among his dislikes are wrestling alligators, swimming with sharks, and being struck by lightning.
Pastor Doug met his wife, Sue, in college. They married in 1990. Pastor Doug often wonders how he got a perfect wife. Sue has worked as an accountant, but is currently a freelance writer and editor. They have two children, Zack, born in 1996, and Chloe, born in 1999. When he grows up, Zack wants to be either President of the United States or work at a Subway restaurant. Chloe wants to be a cat. They look forward to many years of growth and renewal at First Presbyterian Church of Stuart.
